Safe Home Organization

Carrboro/Chapel Hill, North Carolina Chiropractor

It’s that time again: the holidays are over, a new year has begun, and everyone has a list of resolutions a mile long. For many, these resolutions include getting their home organized. This is a great idea because it keeps things tidy and prevents accidents around the house. However, the process of cleaning and organizing is not risk-free.

Home organization usually includes packing things into boxes and moving the boxes from one location to another. Whether you are lugging stuff up to the attic or preparing it for donation, remember to carry the boxes safely and do not  lift too many at the same time. It is better to make several trips to your final destination than cause injury by overdoing it.

You should also pack the boxes properly. Heavier items should be placed in smaller boxes with fewer items in each box. Larger boxes can be filled with linens, bedding, and other lightweight items. This makes carrying and lifting the boxes much safer.

Finally, take frequent breaks during a home organization project of any kind. These projects typically include lifting, bending, stretching, and climbing. It might not feel like it at the time, but these actions are quite a workout. Though you might want to finish the project, it is important to give your body a break while working.

This time of year is filled with goals and accomplishments. Do not let an injury stand in the way of reaching your resolutions. Contact Neville Chiropractic for help healing your body and preventing injury in 2012.
