It is common for people to overindulge during the holidays. From office parties to family gatherings and New Year’s Eve parties, the weeks leading up to the New Year are filled with abundance. Luckily, the New Year is a great time for a fresh start.
January is a time to embark on a new way of living, which for many people includes exercise. Jogging, aerobics, Tae Bo, or “Sweatin’ to the Oldies,” might all be on your list, but stretching is often overlooked. Stretching, even done on its own, is a great way to get into shape, improve flexibility, and increase the strength of your muscles.
Stretching is one of the best ways to launch a fitness program. You should begin and end each exercise session with stretching, and if it has been far too long since you have exercised at all, stretching is a great place to begin. It strengthens the muscles of the body, which helps hold the spine in alignment. When you have proper alignment, every exercise you do is more efficient and effective. Not to mention proper alignment means you are toning your muscles during life’s most basic activities such as standing and sitting.
If you are ready for a fresh start in 2012 and fitness is on your to-do list, make stretching a part of the plan. If you want tips on getting started with a stretching routine, or you need advice because you will be exercising through a back or neck injury, contact Neville Chiropractic for a consultation.
Happy New Year To You. May It Be A Healthy, Happy and Prosperous One!
